DELANEY MINING PROJECT

We have received notice from the APA that Delaney’s application on a proposed expansion of the mining operation is complete.  The application requests further expansion of a previously approved 10.2 acre mineral extraction (stone quarry) by an additional 23 acres.   The depth of the mineral and gravel extraction will also be increased.  The APA will receive any written comments on the proposed expansion no later than May 4th.  Tim Delaney and his engineers will host a public informational presentation on the proposed mining expansion at the Bradt Municipal Building on Thursday, April 27th at 6:30 P.M.

JOINT YOUTH COMMISSION

The Northville-Northampton Joint Youth Commission hosted it’s first community-wide Easter Egg Hunt on April 15th.   The event was a huge success with the adults having as much fun (if not more) as the children did.  Many thanks to Molly and all of her “helpers” that showed the Easter Bunny around the Village and helped him pick the best locations for the eggs.  The children found approximately 1200 eggs.   My guess is that the bunny will need to bring even more eggs next year!!   The Youth Commission is reviewing applications for counselors and certified lifeguards for its summer program.  The Summer Day Camp will begin on July 5th and will run for 5 ½  weeks for children residing in Benson, Northampton, Edinburg and Northville.

COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE

The Town Board is currently reviewing public comments received on the draft Comprehensive Plan.  When this task is completed, the Board will make their recommendations to the Planning Board.   The draft proposed plan is on our website on the front page and can be printed from there.  It is also available on CD.

PROPOSED DEMOLITION LOCAL LAW

The Planning Board and the Historic Landmark Commission has presented the Town Board with a proposed Demolition Local Law.  The proposed Local Law concerns the demolition of buildings within the Town of Northampton for the purposes of public safety, real property tax assessments and the preservation of historic structures.  The proposed Local Law is available for review in the Town Clerk’s Office.  The Town Board conducted a public hearing on the proposed Local Law on April 19th.  The public hearing remains open for comment.

TRANSFER STATION & HARDFILL SITE

The hard fill site behind the transfer station is now open and the container has been brought in.  The hours for both are Monday & Tuesday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Starting June 2nd, Fridays 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  We will accept tires again this year on a limited basis beginning May 1st.  The limit is 4 tires (must be off the rims) per transfer permit.

COUNTY “BIZ” AND PUBLIC HEARINGS

VETERANS EXEMPTION:  A public hearing will be held by the Fulton County Board of Supervisors, at the County Office Building in Johnstown on May 8th at 1:30 p.m. to receive comments on the proposed Local Law to increase the Veterans Maximum Level Exemption Amount.  The proposed law will increase the County property tax exemption for eligible veterans to: Wartime- $21,000; Combat Zone-$14,000; and Disabled-$70,000.  A copy of the Local Law will be available for review at Town Hall.

INCOME TAX CREDIT FOR FIREFIGHTERS AND AMBULANCE CORP. VOLUNTEERS:

The Board unanimously supported the establishment of a NYS personal income tax credit (Senate Bill 3804) for volunteers.  Recruitment and retention of members of volunteer fire and emergency medical organizations is becoming increasingly difficult for all communities.  The volunteers undergo countless hours of training and practice to become certified in order to provide the invaluable service and selfless dedication in responding 24 hours a day to those in need.  This proposed credit is a long overdue effort to recognize and reward the dedication of these volunteers.  If passed, the Bill will provide a credit of $1200 or the total amount of tax owed, whichever is less.  We will continue to lobby our State Representatives on behalf of our volunteers.

NOTE:  Our Town Board minutes are available on the web site.
