CAUTION IS ADVISED ON AND AROUND SACANDAGA LAKE AS WATER LEVELS ARE LOWERED approximately 10 feet in order to conduct emergency repairs on the Conklinville Dam. The Lake has just started to freeze over, therefore, HRBRRD has issued an advisory on their web site urging recreational users of the Sacandaga to use caution as changes and shifting in the ice surfaces will occur as the release of water continues. For more information, visit the HRBRRD website at www.hrbrrd.com .
COMMUNITY BULLETIN BOARD PLANNED
The Community will finally have a much-needed bulletin board to display upcoming meetings and community events. As his Eagle Scout Project, Nick Palmateer (Northville Scout Troop 55) is planning to build a bulletin board with three sides and a roof on the Northville Village Green in the near future. Different groups have discussed the need for a Community Board in the past, but the idea hasn’t quite materialized……. until now.
The Town strongly supports this project and we commend Nick for his initiative and commitment in making this worthwhile project become a reality for the benefit of our Community as well as Visitors, while he works toward his goal of becoming an Eagle Scout.
Nick anticipates his project to cost approximately $1,200 and is planning fund-raisers to help with the costs. He is planning a pancake breakfast for Sunday, February 18th from 7:00 am to Noon at the American Legion. Please plan on attending, show your support and enjoy a great breakfast with neighbors and friends.
FEMA FUNDS RECEIVED
The Town has received a payment of $31,006 from the NYS Emergency Management Office for repairs, debris removal and cleanup following the June and July flooding. We investigated and pursued the Town’s eligibility for re-imbursement of the costs incurred and the necessary repairs that were needed as a result of the flooding. We owe thanks to the Federal and State representatives that met several times with us to assist us through the process, as well as to Kip and Carol for their part in helping put the paperwork together.
NEWS FROM THE NORTHAMPTON AMBULANCE SERVICE
We’re proud to announce the arrival of our new ambulance in Northville. The new ambulance was designed by the crew to accommodate many of the new state of the art pieces of equipment the Ambulance has on board. The ambulance was also designed to allow as many patient services to be done from a seated / belted position as possible, for the safety of the crew.
The ambulance squad is also proud of their new Zoll “Autopulse” unit for victims of sudden cardiac arrest. Manual (CPR) compressions – even when done well – only provide 10 - 20% of normal blood flow to the heart and 30 - 40 % to the brain. The AutoPulse is a revolutionary non-invasive cardiac support pump that moves more blood, more consistently than is possible with human hands. As a result, victims receive consistent, high-quality compressions that deliver improved blood flow. It also allows rescuers to provide compressions while performing other life-saving activities, or while transporting a victim down the stairs or in the back of a moving ambulance.
The ambulance squad has also put into service a new Zoll E-Series defibrillator, the newest defibrillator designed to meet the specific demands and extreme conditions of the EMS environment.
Unfortunately, even with a “state of the art” ambulance and equipment, there are times when our ambulance is unable to respond to a call due to lack of available volunteers. Our all-volunteer squad responds to roughly 80% of the calls received, but is always in need of more volunteers. If you would be interested in joining the ambulance squad, please speak to any of its members or call the corps captain, Jack Farquhar @ 863-2468 for information on how you can help serve YOUR community!!
