This month’s newsletter will
be short and sweet. I’ll give Doug a break so he will have room for more
fill-in’s in this issue!! You can thank me latter Doug!!
We have been extremely busy working with engineers and folks from EFC and DEC on
the Sacandaga Park Project, mapping, and the Request for Proposals. We are
hoping to get proposals done in order to meet the upcoming grant cycles. More on
that project next month.
It has also been a busy two months on Conferences and Training Seminars for us.
LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW…………WHO SAID THAT???
Well folks, some wanted snow, be careful what you wish for, WOW, did we get
hammered. Even though I’m short, it’s been a good many years since I can
remember having to crawl (and roll) through the snow just to get to a door
because my legs weren’t long enough. Of course, my snowshoes were at home
(buried in) and not with me. I learned my lesson, now they’re in my car!! You do
have to admit that the Snow-fall was beautiful and the kids, (and some adults as
well), had a blast in it. Hopefully, by now, everyone has unburied and located
their vehicles, driveways and houses from under the snow.
The Town and Village Highway Crews worked unmercifully throughout the storm,
trying to keep the roads open as best as was possible, and getting themselves
and many others unburied. We all appreciate the long hours they put in and the
assistance they provided to each other and to the many motorist that were stuck
or stranded. We are indeed grateful to have dedicated crews. How many of you got
caught in (or heard about) the mess on the streets in the Citys? Most of their
streets weren’t even passable for Emergency Vehicles. By the way, our ambulance
was called out during the storm and encountered no problems with getting out and
to the call.
Please be cautious around corners and intersections. The snow banks are high and
visibility is limited. As the clean-up continues, the crews will be working on
cleaning up these areas and pushing banks back and hauling the snow away.
UPDATE ON PROPERTY MAINTAINCE LAW AND JUNK ISSUES
Most of the worse offenders on blight issues and those in violation of the new
Law have cleaned up and complied either on their own or after receiving letters
from the Community Enhancement Officer. For those of you that have cleaned up,
we again “Thank You”. Tickets have now been served, with Court Appearance dates
in March to those who refuse to comply. We’ll see what happens and keep you
posted.
VACANCIES ON BOARDS: We still have a vacancy on the Historic Landmark Commission
and vacancies for 2 alternates on the Planning Board. Anyone interested, please
contact the Town.
NOTES: Remember to fill out your Star applications and return to the assessor or
Town Hall. These must be returned before March 1st in order to get the exemption
for this year.
The HRBRRD Advisory Committee will now be meeting weekly, every Wednesday, to
work on the proposed Rules and Regulations in order to meet the deadlines
imposed on them by the District for their completion. We thank the
Representatives around the Lake that are putting a great amount of time,
thought, and reasoning into this task.
