SACANDAGA LAKE WATER QUALITY TESTING
The Great Sacandaga Lake Advisory Council (GSLAC) and The Great Sacandaga Lake Association (GSLA) have partnered to conduct water quality and metals testing at numerous locations around the Sacandaga Lake, including the public beaches, marina’s, boat launches, and other selected locations and any suspected “hot spots”. Baseline bacterial water quality will be sampled at 9 locations monthly from May thru Oct, 2007, in order to coincide with the period of maximum population density and intensity of recreational use. The data collected will be compared to to similar collections taken from 1991 thru 1995. Twelve to fifteen additional shoreline locations will be sampled during biweekly sampling cycles. The Darrin Freshwater Institute is conducting the testing for bacteria levels. Paul Smith’s College will conduct testing for metals. The sampling sites were determined in consultation with the GSLAC, GSLA, DEC, Towns and Villages, and other Regulatory Agencies. Two reports have been submitted to date, with results well below the maximum allowable levels of acceptable coliform bacteria levels in waters used for contact recreation as set by the NYS Dept. of Health. The continued testing will provide assurance to the public of the quality of the waters that we all are using for recreational purposes. The test results are available at the Town Hall, the Town and the GSLA websites.
THANK YOU TO JIM COLE
Special recognition and thanks to Jim Cole of Hope for his act of heroism following an accident on June 14th, on Seven Hills Road in which the wrecked vehicle with 2 teenagers inside was engulfed in fire. John Driscoll and Justin Taback, both 16 year olds, were inside the burning vehicle when Jim came upon the accident shortly after it happened. Jim, a licensed EMT and former NYC cop, along with other passer-byers, quickly extricated the boys from the vehicle and pulled them to safety before the SUV was fully engulfed in fire. The boys definitely owe their lives to Jim’s quick thinking and actions. Thank You, Jim, for your heroic actions.
SACANDAGA PARK WATER AND SEWER UPDATE
The Town has contracted with the firm of AES Northeast for engineering services in the evaluation and planning design for the park water and sewer lines. We have spent a great deal of time reconstructing old records and maps in order to compile and map what we believe is now accurate information on this hundred plus year old system. With more accurate information of what is currently in existence, we can now move forward with plans on what needs to be done to either replace or repair the old lines. AES has spent several days in the Sacandaga Park doing preliminary surveying, collecting more data and installing flow meters in order to determine where the problems exist. We are on schedule and should have the reports completed for our upcoming grant and listing deadlines in July and August. We anticipate holding public information sessions and Public Hearings sometime in July or August when the evaluation and recommendations are completed

HRBRRD RULES AND REGULATIONS UPDATE
The Hudson River/Black River Regulating District posted their revised rules on their website on Friday, June 22nd. The Rules and Regs Advisory Committee, 22 people representing all area stakeholders and special interest groups, has been meeting weekly and bi-weekly for several months reviewing each of the original draft rules as presented by HRBRRD and recommending changes to the original rules. The Committee has submitted their revisions to the District for consideration. HRBRRD has reviewed their recommendations as well as those received from the public comments and have revised the Draft Rules. The District will conduct 3 public meetings (listed below). Written comments on the revised rules will be received from July 16th to August 31st, 2007. The revised ruled are posted on the Regulating District’s Website at http:/www.hrbrrd.com/revgslpsrules.html. Copies of the rules are also available at the District Offices.
We all owe a great deal of thanks to the members of the Advisory Committee and to the Alternates for their commitment, time and dedication for the benefit of all of the communities around the Lake in order to complete their task of making recommendations and revisions to the District’s Draft Rules.

TIRES NOW BEING ACCEPTED AT HARDFILL SITE; DISPOSAL OF BRUSH
The Town Board voted to continue to accept tires at the hardfill site for the same fee as the Town
is being charged for re-cycling them at a private facility. After two years of providing a free service, we felt that this was the fairest way to enable us to continue to accept tires as a convenience to the residents for disposal of them locally and cheaper. Residents are encouraged to dispose of their tires at the garages where they are purchased. The tire re-cycling fee for passenger cars is $1.50; Light pick-up trucks $2.00; Industrial-small medium commercial $5.00 (16”-19”) (tractor, med. Truck); medium commercial $10.00. Tires on rims will be charged an additional fee from $1.00-$10.00. Transfer Permits are required for the disposal of tires; tires will no longer be picked up curb-side. Transfer permits are $5.00 for all vehicles.
Brush, debris, leaves etc. will only be accepted at the hard-fill site behind the transfer station during regular hours when an attendant is present.
