HISTORIC LANDMARK COMMISSION

The Town of Northampton Historic Landmark Commission dedicated its first historic landmark plaque at a ceremony on Saturday, August 18th at the Spier house located at 520 S. Main St., Northville.  In 1800, Joseph Spier was one of the first settlers in what later became the Village of Northville.  He later became a Town justice of the peace and Supervisor.  In 1822, he was elected to the State Legislature.

The Village of Northville has adopted the Town’s Historic Preservation Ordinance, which identifies and protects our valuable Historic resources.  The Commission will now be a joint Town of Northampton-Village of Northville Historic Landmark Commission and will be comprised of two positions to be filled based on the recommendations of the Village of Northville’s Board of Trustees.  Persons interested in serving on the Commission are asked to send a letter of interest to the Landmark Commission in care of the Town of Northampton, P.O. Box 479, Northville.   A Historic Preservation Fund account has also been set up in the Town for individuals who have expressed a willingness to contribute monies for the purpose of historic preservation.
