AS A RESULT OF RECENT NYS DEC REGULATIONS ON CONTROLLED BRUSH BURNING BY MUNICIPALITIES, THE TOWN WILL NO LONGER BE DOING ROADSIDE PICK- UP OF BRUSH OR BE ABLE TO ACCEPT IT AT THE HARDFILL SITE LOCATION…… UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

As usual, the State continues to impose rules with complete disregard of the impact to our Adirondack Communities, including the additional calls for local Fire Departments. Since the DEC imposed these regulations, the Town has no economically viable means of disposing of the brush. We have diligently research many alternatives for disposal or chipping…….however any alternatives are cost prohibitive and would put a large additional cost burden over to the taxpayers. Town property owners can obtain individual Open Burning Permits to burn their own brush on site (info below). As we continue to aggressively oppose this yet another DEC regulation and look for options, we will keep you posted with any updates.

NORTHVILLE DEC SUB-OFFICE NOW CLOSED – OPEN BURNING INFO
Public access to the local DEC offices on South Main Street, Northville is available by appointment only. An informational kiosk is planned on the grounds next to the facility by next summer. Contact numbers have been provided as follows:
Main Number 518-863-4545, extensions to leave general messages: forest rangers 3011; forestry and state lands 3007; state land purchases, boundaries, surveyors 3008; campgrounds, operations and recreation staff 3014. For Emergencies or reporting environmental violations DEC Dispatch: 518-897-1300.

As a convenience to the public, General Residential Open Burning Permits (brush) for the Town Of Northampton may now be picked up at the Town Offices on South Main Street. You simply sign a sheet & list property location for DEC and pick up the permit, which states the new burning regulations. The general permit is valid from Jan. 1st, 2010-March 15th, 2010 and May 15th to Dec. 31st, 2010. No burning is allowed between March 15th and May 15th. Call 736-2100 prior to burning.

NORTHVILLE-NORTHAMPTON HISTORIC LANDMARK COMMISSION MEETING
The Landmark Commission has approved a Cultural Resources Reconnaissance Survey. This report was prepared by Andrea J Becker as a result from a Preserve New York grant of the Preservation League of New York State. The Commission also adopted an Inventory of Historic Resources within the Town and Village. Letters were sent to owners of the properties listed in the inventory. A Public Meeting about the Report is scheduled for March 9th at 7:00 pm. The owners will be given the opportunity to discuss their properties with the Commission and area preservationists; the owners will also be given information on the benefits of preserving the properties. A copy of the report is available at the Town Offices. Many thanks again to the numerous dedicated people who assisted with compiling the necessary information needed to complete the report. The owners of listed properties, as well as the public, are urged to attend.

CENSUS 2010 – WORKERS NEEDED
We’ve been hearing a lot about the upcoming census. Soon, every property owner will be receiving a short questionnaire with 10 questions mailed to them. Please, don’t throw them out!! We need all our residents to be counted so that we receive our fair share of funding and representation, don’t let it go elsewhere!! Population counts determine our Congressional representation numbers and census data affect the distribution of federal funds. Only one form will get sent to each physical location, so it’s very important for additional apartment residents to all get counted. Please note that the Postal Service will not forward the questionnaire to a different address. Let our “snowbirds” know that they need to fill out the form for Northampton as the residence, since they most likely will not be back by April 1st. The Census Bureau needs workers in our area. This is a part-time job that pays $13.00/hr and $.50/mile reimbursement. Visit www.2010 censusjobs.gov. Toll free number is 1-866-861-2010. Laura Ginter is our Regional Census Ambassador, contact her at 863-4145.
